ประวัติของ พระครูบาบุญชุ่ม ญาณสํวโร นั้นเว็บไซต์พุทธะ ได้เผยแพร่ประวัติ “ครูบาเจ้าบุญชุ่ม ญาณสํวโร” ที่นำมาจากหนังสือ “๓๐ พรรษาในร่มเงาพระพุทธศาสนา ของพระครูบาเจ้าบุญชุ่ม ญาณสํวโร” ระบุว่า ครูบาบุญชุ่ม เกิดเมื่อวันที่ อังคารที่ 5 มกราคม พ.ศ. 2508 เวลา 09.00 น. ที่หมู่บ้านแม่คำหนองบัว ตำบลแม่คำ อำเภอแม่จัน จังหวัดเชียงราย นามเดิมคือเด็กชายบุญชุ่ม ทาแกง มีบิดามารดา คือพ่อคำหล้า แม่แสงหล้า ทาแกง เป็นลูกคนโตจากพี่น้องทั้งหมด 4 คน ชีวิตในวัยเยาว์ คุณแม่แสงหล้า แต่งงานกับคุณพ่อคำหล้า ก่อนตั้งครรภ์พระครูบาเจ้าฯ คุณแม่แสงหล้านิมิตฝันว่า “ได้ขึ้นภูเขาไปไหว้พระพุทธรูปทองคำองค์ใหญ่เหลืองอร่ามงามมากนัก” แล้วสะดุ้งตื่นอยู่มาไม่นานนัก คุณแม่แสงหล้าเริ่มตั้งครรภ์ พอตั้งครรภ์ได้ครบ 10 เดือน ก็ได้ให้กำเนิดเด็กชายบุญชุ่ม ซึ่งเป็นเด็กหน้าตาน่ารักน่าเอ็นดู จากนั้นก็มีเหตุแยกจากพ่อคำหล้ากลับไปดูแลแม่อุ้ยนางหลวงที่เคยอยู่ด้วยกัน เพราะไม่มีใครดูแล ส่วนพ่อคำหล้าก็กลับไปดูแลแม่หลวงอุ่น เมื่ออายุครบ 6 เดือน พ่อคำหล้าได้มาเยี่ยม ซื้อเสื้อผ้ามาฝากลูกด้วย แต่กลับไปไม่นาน คุณพ่อก็ได้ล้มป่วยด้วยโรคบิดกะทันหัน ถึงแก่กรรม เมื่ออายุได้ 25 ปี เท่านั้น
เมื่อพระครูบาฯ อายุได้ 4 ขวบ แม่อุ้ยนางหลวงและคุณแม่แสงหล้าได้ย้ายจากบ้านด้ายไปอยู่บ้านทาดอนชัย ตำบลป่าสัก อำเภอสันกำแพง เชียงใหม่ และสมรสใหม่กับนายสม ชัยวงศ์คำ ครอบครัวของเด็กชายบุญชุ่ม ลำบากมาก บ้านก็ถูกรื้อขาย แล้วอพยพไปอยู่เชิงดอยม่อนเรียบ ทำกระต๊อบน้อยอยู่กัน 5 คน แม่ลูก ถึงแม้ชีวิตท่านจะลำบากเพียงใดก็ไม่เคยเป็นเด็กเกเร ลักเล็กขโมยน้อยเด็ดขาย แม่แสงหล้าจะสอนว่า “ห้ามลักขโมยของคนอื่นมาโดยเด็ดขาด” วันหน้าถ้ามีบุญก็จะสบายได้แล ชีวิตความเป็นอยู่ของพระครูบาเจ้าฯ ช่างน่าสังเวช ทุกข์ลำบากเหมือนกับว่า ในโลกนี้บ่มีใครเท่าเทียมได้ ทุกสิ่งทุกอย่าง ทุกข์และสุขก็เป็นอนิจจัง ทุกข์ขัง อนัตตา เกิดขึ้น ตั้งอยู่ ดับไป ไม่เที่ยงเป็นทุกข์ทนลำบากไม่ใช่ตัวตนของเราบังคับไม่ได้ พิจารณาให้ถี่ถ้วนแล้ว พึงจะเบื่อหน่ายการเกิด การตาย ทุกข์ในวัฏฏะสงสารพึงสละละวางความยึดมั่น ถือมั่น พึงคลาย ความอาลัยในตัณหาตัวนำมาเกิด พึงละอวิชชา ความไม่รู้นำมาเกิดภพชาติ ชรามรณะทุกข์ เวียนว่าย ตายเกิด หาที่สุดเบื้องต้นเบื้องปลายบ่มิได้พึงสังเวชเบื่อหน่ายโลกาอามิสทั้งปวงพึง มีจิตยินดีในพระนิพพานเป็นอารมณ์ รีบขวนขวายหาทางดับทุกข์ ความเกิดแก่เจ็บตาย จงสร้างแต่กุศลบุญทาน รักษาศีลภาวนา อย่าขาด อย่าประมาทในชีวิตสังขารไม่ยั่งยืน ไม่รู้ว่าเราจะตายวันใด ที่ไหน เวลาใด ใครไม่สามารถกำหนดได้ ขอให้ทุกคน เราท่านทั้งหลายจงทำดีให้หนีวัฏฏะสงสารไม่ต้องกลับมาเกิดอีกเพราะการเกิด บ่อย ๆ เป็นทุกข์
จากนั้นเมื่อปี พ.ศ.2517 ได้เข้ามาเป็นเด็กวัด โดยมีพ่อลุงทาเอาไปฝากกับเจ้าอธิการสิน จิรธัมโม วัดบ้านด้าย ตอนท่านอายุได้ 11 ปี หลังจากเป็นเด็กวัดได้ 3 ปี จึงได้บรรพชาเป็นสามเณร ท่านชอบสงบอยากบวชตั้งแต่อายุ 4-5 ปีแล้ว ในสมัยเป็นเด็กนักเรียนชอบนั่งสมาธิภาวนาไม่สุงสิงกับใคร เวลาว่างก็เดินจงกรมที่สนามหญ้าโรงเรียน จนเพื่อนฝูงว่าท่านเป็นบ้า ใครจะว่าอย่างไรไม่สนใจ ท่านถือว่าได้ปฏิบัติตามแนวทางของพระพุทธเจ้า
ใน พ.ศ.2519 ครูบาเจ้าบุญชุ่ม ได้บวชเรียนตามปณิธานที่ตั้งไว้ตั้งแต่เยาว์วัย ถึงเวลาท่านก็กำหนดขอขมาลุงและป้าแทนพ่อแม่ แล้วจึงอาบน้ำและนุ่งผ้าขาวในคืนหนึ่ง พอใกล้รุ่งท่านนิมิตเห็นหลวงพ่อปู่องค์หนึ่งแก่ ๆ ผมหงอกสักไม้เท้าจากต้นโพธิ์ใหญ่ที่ในวัดเดินเข้ามาห่านแล้วสอนธรรม กัมมัฏฐานให้ภาวนาว่า พุทโธๆและบอกว่าให้หมั่นภาวนาในภายหน้าจะได้เป็นครูบาอาจารย์เป็นที่พึ่งของ คนทั่วไปและมนุษย์โลกทั้งหลาย แล้วท่านครูบาเฒ่าก็เดินลับหายไป พอสว่างก็ได้ไปบรรพชาเป็นสามเณรที่วัดศรีบุญยืน ตำบลป่าสัก อำเภอเชียงแสน จังหวัดเชียงราย โดยมีพระครูหิรัญเขตคณารักษ์ วัดศรีบุญเรือง อำเภอแม่จัน เจ้าคณะอำเภอเชียงแสนเป็นองค์พระอุปัชฌาย์ บรรพชาเป็นสามเณรเมื่อวันที่ 9 พฤษภาคม 2519
ระหว่างบรรพชามีหลวงพ่อธุดงค์องค์หนึ่งอยู่อำเภอจุน จ.พะเยา ได้นำเอาพระบรมสารีริกธาตุมามอบให้พระครูบาเจ้าฯ เมื่อท่านได้รับพระบรมสารีริกธาตุมาแล้ว ได้น้อมจิตพิจารณาว่า กระดูกของสัตว์โลกทั้งหลายนั้น นับตั้งแต่เวียนว่าย ตายเกิด ในวัฏฏสงสารนี้ หากนำมากองรวมกัน คงกองใหญ่เป็นภูเขาทีเดียว หากแยกกันก็กระจัดกระจายอย่างที่เห็น กระดูกแข้งไปทางหนึ่ง กระดูกเข่าไปอีกทางหนึ่ง กระดูกข้อเท้าไปทางอื่น กระดูกข้อนิ้วเท้าก็กระจัดกระจายไปทางอื่น กระดูกทุกส่วนแยกออกจากกันไปคนละที่คนละแห่ง แล้วก็ผุพังกลายเป็นดินเป็นจุลไป ท่านก็น้อมพิจารณาเข้ามาในกายแห่งตนว่า “เอวงฺธมฺโม เอวงฺอนตฺติโต” จากนั้นท่านจึงไปจำศีลภาวนาแล้วสร้างพระธาตุขึ้น ชื่อว่าพระธาตุงำเมือง ดอยท้าววัง นั่งเรือไปๆมาๆอยู่ที่เมืองพงนี้เหมือนบ้านเกิด คิดว่าในอดีตชาติคงเคยสร้างบารมีในที่นี้ หลังจากได้สร้าง พระธาตุบ้านป่าข่า พระธาตุงำเมืองเสร็จแล้ว ท่านได้เดินธุดงค์ด้วยเท้าเปล่าไปเมืองยอง ไปกราบพระธาตุหลวงจอมยอง กลับมาป่วยเป็นไข้มาเลเรียเกือบตาย แล้วท่านได้มาเข้าพรรษาที่วัดทุ่งหลวง อ.แม่แตง จ.เชียงใหม่ โดยมีหลวงปู่ครูบาเจ้าธรรมชัยเป็นองค์รักษาไข้ คุณแม่ก็มาเยี่ยมเยียนตลอดโดยให้น้องชายบวชเณรอยู่ด้วย ในพรรษาที่ 5 ท่านได้มาจำพรรษาอยู่ที่วัดจอมแจ้ง บ้านกาดขี้เหล็ก ต.แม่โป่ง อ.ดอยสะเก็ด จ.เชียงใหม่ โดยมีคุณแม่ย่าคำแปง คุณธนิต นิ่มพันธ์ คุณตุ๊ คุณสมศักดิ์ คุณอุไร และเจ้าพ่อน้อยโสภณ ณ เชียงใหม่ และญาติโยมหลายๆคนเป็นผู้อุปัฏฐากดูแล ในพรรษาโยมแม่ก็มาเยี่ยมถือศีลด้วยบางครั้งบางคราว ท่านไปสร้าง พระธาตุจอมศรีดับเภมุงเมือง ต.เมืองพง พม่า และมาสร้างวัดพระเจ้าล้านทอง อ.พร้าว จ.เชียงใหม่ คุณแม่ก็ตามไปเยี่ยมร่วมทำบุญทุกที่ พรรษานี้ท่านอยากมาจำพรรษาที่เมืองพง แม่ย่าคำแปงให้จับฉลาก 2-3 ครั้ง ก็จับได้ที่วัดจอมแจ้งที่เดิม ท่านจึงได้มาจำพรรษาที่วัดจอมแจ้งอีกในปีนี้ ท่านมีความสุขอิ่มเอมในพระธรรม อยู่กุฏิวิเวกองค์เดียว ได้อารมณ์กัมมัฏฐานดีมาก เดินจงกรมก็สบาย มีสมาธิตั้งมั่น ทั้งนี้ในช่วงบรรพชาเป็นสามเณร ได้ไปจำพรรษาแสวงบุญที่อินเดีย เมียนมา เนปาล ป่าหิมพานต์ ผ่านการสร้างและบูรณะพระธาตุต่างๆ และชดใช้วิบากกรรมในอดีตชาติ จากนั้นจึงอุปสมบท ใน ปี พ.ศ.2529 และมีโอกาสไปจำพรรษาที่ประเทศภูฏาน โดยเมื่อวันที่ 5 ม.ค.2548 สมเด็จพระราชินีภูฏานร่วมกับพระราชวงศ์ จัดงานอายุวัฒนะมงคลถวายพระครูบาเจ้าฯ เพื่อเป็นมุทิตาจิตสักการะต่อวัตรปฏิบัติที่งดงามของพระครูบาเจ้าฯตลอดมา
อนึ่ง พระครูบาเจ้าบุญชุ่ม ญาณสํวโร เดินทางกลับถึงประเทศไทยในวันที่ 17 มีนาคม 2548 หลังจากนั้นท่านได้เมตตาให้โอกาสลูกศิษย์กราบเยี่ยมสักการะและพระครูบาเจ้าฯ ได้เดินทางต่างจังหวัดเพื่อสักการะพระพุทธรูปศักดิ์สิทธิ์ สถานที่ศักดิ์สิทธิ์ตลอดจนเมตตาลูกศิษย์ตามสถานที่แห่งนั้นๆ รวมถึงลูกศิษย์ที่ประเทศไต้หวันด้วย ในช่วงวันที่ 29 พฤษภาคม – 5 มิถุนายน 2548 พระครูบาเจ้าฯ ได้ไปยังเมืองเฉินตู ประเทศจีน และทิเบต เพื่อเยี่ยมชมสถานที่และพระพุทะรูปสำคัญๆ และในวันที่ 21 กรกฎาคม 2548 ศิษยานุศิษย์ปลาบปลื้มในความเสียสละของพระครูบาเจ้าฯอย่างมาก เมื่อพระครูบาเจ้าฯเลือกจำพรรษา ณ ถ้ำผาแดง บ้านล่อม ต.สันทราย อ.พร้าว จ.เชียงใหม่ ซึ่งพระครูบาเจ้าเห็นว่าสถานที่แห่งนี้เงียบสงบและใกล้ๆถ้ำยังมีชาวเขาถึง 6 หมู่บ้าน ที่พระครูบาเจ้าฯยังเมตตาได้ ในวันที่ 19 ตุลาคม 2548 คณะศิษยานุศิษย์ร่วมกันจัดงานแแกพรรษาถวาย ณ บริเวณหน้าถ้ำ มีการตั้งโรงทาน แจกเสื้อกันหนาว ผ้าห่ม อาหารแห้ง ตุ่มใส่น้ำตลอดจนปัจจัย ให้กับทุกครอบครัว และยังได้รับพรกันอย่างทั่วถึง
